1st Quarter 2008
Our favorite quote:
"What squeal?"
Our mission is to serve God and our church using the skills we've been given so if you're interested in serving in our department or learning more about what we do, contact us at media@rbbcsc.org or just come on up the stairs Sunday and introduce yourself.
Recorded services on tape have been around since Noah was a...well, at least the early 90's. Tape recordings of the worship services were easy to make and the sound person could handle it while he was managing the sound...IF he didn't get too busy.
There were several good things about tapes like they were low-cost, reuseable and everbody had a tape player at home or in their car. The bad things about tapes were quality, rewinding and finding the part you wanted to hear.
My biggest complaint was that they just sounded terrible. And when they were reused they went from bad to worse.
The hiss was terrible and sometimes the tape dragged or got jammed in somebody's tape player.
One problem when using tapes was trying to find a particular point on the tape you want to listen to. Back and forth, back and forth I went until I finally found it. What if I wanted to hear it again? Back and forth, back and forth...
Also, most people didn't realize it but when tapes were reused, the label had to be removed and a newly printed one was placed on it. Nobody ever could get that label lined up right like Mac McVickers. He was the best I'd ever seen at that.
Today, we record the services on a Macintosh computer from microphones in the sancturary. We wanted a "live" sound to our recordings so when you listened to it later, it would sound like you were there. I think we've achieved that.
When the service is over and we make a backup copy, we balance the volume, edit the silent parts out and cut it into tracks. Although the editing takes about at least 60 to 90 minutes to do correctly, it makes it easy for you to find any part of the service.
Next, we record our introduction and the prayer list and add it to the other tracks. Then we make our master CD and begin the duplication process. We can make 7 copies in about 5 minutes or less.
CD's give you a better product and, you don't have to return the CD to us. You can keep it or pass it on to someone who's never been to Red Bank.
We also create a Bible Study CD every week. Pastor Powell uses a digital recorder (no tape) and gives it to us on Sunday morning. We edit that, make a master and duplicate it too.
The finished CD's can be found in our lobby, next to the Media stairway door.
Please pick one up and let us know what you think of it. We make approximately 80 each week and hope we will eventually do a lot more.
Please let us know if you know anyone wanting a CD. If they don't live in the area, give us their address and we'll mail it to them. Click here to send us a request form.
If this helps keep God's Word near you during the week and you want to help our ministry, your generosity would be greatly appreciated. Just mark "Media Department " on your check
and drop it in the offering plate or send it directly to the church. It will go into our budget and help this department continue to grow.
Let us know what we can do to make the worship service more enjoyable for you and your family. Send your comments to our email address: media@rbbcsc.org
If we get enough input, we will post the comments for everyone to read.
